Our Heritage
At Bar S Ranch, we take pride in our rich history as a family-owned cattle ranch established in 1932. We have a long history of cattle and farming. Our dedication to quality and tradition has made us a trusted name in Registered Hereford Cattle. We sell quality polled and horned Herefords that will compete in show ring, and or improve your registered or commercial herd. We also sell bred heifers, quality hay and organic Microbial Fertilizer that we make here on the ranch.

Founded in 1932, Ernest Green Shinn came up from Livingston and married Mary Ruth Giles. They settled in Ruths's hometown, Edom, Texas. With a Jersey cow and 23 cents to his name Ernest Shinn started what is now known as Bar S Ranch. Bar S Ranch has raised cattle through droughts, floods, low and high prices. Since 2018 we have been transitioning from commercial cattle to Registered Herefords. We are still learning the ins and outs of the registered business but the knowledge of good cattle has been passed down from generations. Herefords are are a unique breed and no matter how you cross them their calves top the market. You'll want to build your herd on our genetics!

Quality Hay and homemade Organic Microbial Fertilizer
A good cattle operation starts out with being good stewards of your grass. The cheapest way to feed your cattle is good grass and quality hay. We sell quality Bahia, coastal and tifton fertilized hay. With the extreme cost of granular fertilizer we were forced to find alternative ways to fertilize. Over the past years we have learned to make organic tea. Through trial and error we feel like we have a mixture of organic tea, molasses and treated nitrogen that really works. We spray 15 gallons of our mix per acre to make quality hay at reduced prices. The benefit of organic fertilize is the boosting of roots and microbial activity in your soil. It helps with the reduction of weeds and reduces the amount of rain and nitrogen to produce hay.

Replacement Heifers
Every spring we buy quality replacement heifers for sale in the fall as bred heifers. Depending on what we can find we buy 50-100 brangus, angus, braford type heifers. We breed them to Angus or Hereford bulls and have them available for sale in the fall. We breed them to LBW (Low birth weight) bulls and we breed them so we would be happy to keep them ourselves.
